Was there to look at new work by two dear friends who call themselves Studio simple.
I’m already impatiently looking forward to their solo exhibition. They make really beautiful objects; simplicity, pure materials, beauty!

Soft colours for this babybox, this time with only a stamp on the lid without text.
I left it open so you can fill in the name and adress of the newborn yourself.
The outside of the box consists of original postcards. This makes this babybox a unique gift, there is only one with these pictures.
Inside there is a pattern of an old pink woolen blanket, printed on paper.
I enjoyed making it, now you can find it here.

Goodmorning!
On my bicycle tour today, I passed by this old schoolhouse in Almo, one of the small villages in
the neighbourhood. This school was closed down in the early 70's. Before that was Farfar, the
grandfather of my children, a teacher here. The childrens father was also a pupil here up to 3rd
class. A few years ago, the house was for sale, could have been nice.

This day started with these 'loppisfynd' (fleamarket treasures),
and a lazy moment in the garden.

If you ever pass by you surely must make a stop here,
tasty new-baked bread with lingonberries and Evalotta is the perfect hostess.
It's really worth while to take a look at the beautiful embroideries from this village, as this cap with flowers.

This is the cuff on Ingrid’s blouse that belongs to the festivity dress, a small detail that I like to work with in the Leksand-boxes.
The young woman on the bicycle is Ingrid, a summerday in Sweden, a photo from days long past.
Now she is almost 82, Lotta’s grandmother and my mother in law. She who also has lend me all her valuable pieces of the traditional dress of Leksand as an inspiration for my boxes.

Today it’s Mother’s Day
Alongside Fiasask and the making of boxes and lamps, I’m above all mother.
As the youngest of seven children I knew early that I wanted to become a mother.
At the age of 16, I already started to collect children’s clothes and at 20 my belly started to get pretty roundish.
Over a month Lotta will be 22, now and again she shows up on this blog and for the moment she is here
This young boy on the photo is my son Pelle, now 18. Yesterday he entered the scene as singer in front of a bigband and one of the jazz songs he performed was this one
It’s a nice feeling to follow these two people from close by; not as close as when they were small, but simply as an audience on the first row.

So glad that a window was opened to Dalarna at the Fair in Milan and that Fiasask can be seen there (by those who got passed the ash cloud) as one of the 'stories' from the region I love.

This scarf is traditionally worn at celebrations and festivities.
The small details in the embroidery are a source of inspiration for me and grateful to use as a primary element in the box.
In earlier days it was the young maidens who embroidered this beautiful piece before they got married, with their initials and the year of the marriage.
Nowadays most people don’t have the time nor the skills for making this kind of embroideries and the old scarves are passed on from mother to daughter.
This one above, my mother in law Ingrid had embroidered by someone from the region with handiness for this kind of very fine needlework.

Ingrid is married in 1952, so this scarf has obviously been made somewhat later.

Today I finished a small box with a variation on the traditional women’s dress for festivities.
The roses are not the ones that normally are used for the rose hat (only worn by unmarried women)
Last summer I had a coffee-talk together with six older ladies from Dalarna. There was discussed about my boxes and whether or not it was important to correctly follow how the different parts of the traditional clothing should be used. The ladies didn’t grant me much freedom, the common conclusion was that it had to be followed correctly.
This I normally always do, however only this once there is another rose pattern that actually belongs to the scarf of the dress for everyday life.

Got this ribbon as a marriage gift long ago. It is hand-woven by Stina, a sweet lady from our second home village Siljansnäs, Dalarna, Sweden.
I guess Stina is around 80 by now and still she is weaving, and at every visit there are 7 different new baked cookies for with the coffee.
The woollen blanket in the background is from the collection by Mia from Lyckaform, who also works with traditional patterns in new designs.

One of my absolute favourite books here at home is Husbibeln (The House Bible),
a book with lovingly words and wonderful photo’s as a declaration of love to the unique cultural environment in the region of Hälsingland, Sweden.

What I really find fascinating in these old houses is the wallpaper. Dreaming to find an original one like that if we ever decide to move to an old house in Sweden.
The photo in the book inspired me to dress up this lucky doll.

These are old boxes for the sweets given here in Belgium when a child is born, the suikerboon .
Pink for the girl and blue for the boy, just as it should be in those days.

We found it a cute way of wrapping the vintage baby-smock.

Time to take up the thread where it was left last year and see where it lead us this year, or maybe it’s the moment to start with something completely new.
Today, I laid all the pieces of the traditional clothes from Lotta’s grandmother next to each other. Happy that I got the permission to put them in a suitcase in Sweden and keep them with me for a while.

Love this textile and the beautiful handwork, even the enclosed seam on the inside of the apron
is kind of special.
